Tips and tricks in memorization

The best way to achieve any goal is to have the right intentions, to work hard and be consistent.

Set yourself a good schedule at home so that you are able to complete all your homework. Give yourself sensible breaks.

Get help from your parents by having them test you regularly. The vast majority of students need a coach to help test them and help them grasp what they have memorized fully. Be sure to be grateful to whoever it is that helps you.

Review the surah you are memorizing from the first aya daily (not from the aya you memorized that day). If you review the surah daily from the beginning, it will be easier for you when you will recite the entire surah for your teacher.

Keep up with the review schedule. Get help with it. Break it into pages or half pages if necessary.

Read the page that you will be memorizing the day before, so that you have prepared it. Make the words familiar to you.

Understand the words you will memorize and develop an attachment to them. Ask why Allah swt has revealed those words and how you can apply them.

Qur’an is a lifetime journey

Quran is for life. It is not something you will only have in your life while you are a student of the school.

Do not be disheartened if other people are better reciters than you, or faster at memorizing. Maybe they forget quicker than you. Always compete with yourself and work on improving your own skills. Try to beat your own scores, or maintain a consistent score that works for you.

In time, memorizing and reviewing the Quran becomes easier and easier, for those who are sincere and keep trying. Alhamdulilah!

Engagement outside Al-Furqan hours

Try to take part in Quran competitions, because they give you deadlines and make you review very well. They build your confidence.

Try to teach Quran to others who don’t know it. You will get a lot of satisfaction out of helping someone learn how to read the Holy Quran and memorize it.
