Summary of Mission of the School

Al-Furqan School is a private Islamic elementary school, which aims to provide excellent unique learning experiences in academic and Islamic disciplines. The school strives to help graduate Muslim students demonstrate impeccable Islamic character along with advanced academic skills. We will pursue the said mission by sincerely seeking the support of Allah, the utilization of advanced curriculum and educational means, and the employment of committed and highly qualified educators. In essence, we aim to give your child the tools he or she needs to excel in Quran and Deen as well as the tools he or she needs to excel in life and Duniya.

We do this through helping your child memorize the entire Quran in three years, and help them to review it in Grade 8, as well as provide them with strong academic training in Language Arts, Math, Science, Social Studies, Geography, History, Art and Physical Education. Students are taught to gain independence and a sense of responsibility in their own success.

Frequently Asked Questions

Increasingly, the number of students who apply are higher than the number we have. If your child does not currently meet the criteria for reading fluency, correct pronunciation and ability to memorize in a short period of time, it is unlikely your child will gain admission. Students who do not make the list are sometimes placed on a waiting list if they are close to making the mark. The school will contact you if a spot becomes available.

How can I prepare my child for the test? All students are tested by our qualified staff. If there are a large number of students, a panel of staff will test your child. Students are asked to read from anywhere in the mushaf. Their fluency is assessed. Staff will also assess their ability to pronounce the Quran, preferably with strong tajweed. In addition, your child will be asked to memorize a small part of the Quran, usually in a group setting with other students. This is essential, as we need to be able to know if your child will thrive in the school. Students memorize a page or more each day, and it can be very stressful for students who are not able to keep up. Your child cannot b e prepared for the test, they must have the skillset we are looking for to qualify InshaAllah.

After school classes take place at 70, Fieldrow Street, and take place during the time that Al-Furqan part-time school runs. Depending on the teacher, the timings may be Monday to Thursday from 3:45pm to 5pm, or Tuesday and Thursday from 6pm to 8pm.

It is essential that your child attends, as students are trained on memorizing a full page. If your child misses the class, they also miss out on the opportunity to know their peers before they start attending the school in the fall. Finally, we often try to narrow down our final search, and so if your child is not present, they may miss the chance to be selected.

We ask that you notify us immediately, as we can then prepare to take students from the waiting list InshaAllah. The more time we have, the better we can prepare.

An Annual Registration Fee of $450 is payable by September 1st. Monthly fees of $600 may be paid electronically through EFT payments (which are preferable) or cheques.

You will be issued with tax receipts for part of your fee payment. All tax receipts are issued through the Head Office and as per guidelines and regulations outlines by the CRA.
